1. About Bounty
Bounty is run by Bounty Limited in Aotearoa New Zealand (“Bounty”, “we”, “us”). These terms apply whenever you use the Bounty website or app. By creating an account or using Bounty you agree to them — please read them, together with our Privacy Policy.
Bounty does three things:
- Rental directory. We gather dresses listed by rental businesses across New Zealand so you can search and compare them in one place. When you rent, you book and pay the business directly on its own website. The hire is between you and that business — Bounty is not a party to it (see 4).
- Pre-Loved marketplace. Individuals and businesses can sell their own dresses to other users. Bounty takes payment and holds it until the item arrives (see 3 and 4).
- Bounty Premium. A paid plan for rental businesses (see 5).
Rental listings and availability come from the businesses themselves or their public websites. We work to keep them current, but the business’s own website is the final word on availability. Bounty doesn’t show rental prices; check the business’s own website for its current pricing.
Some businesses are listed on Bounty without having signed up, using details from their own website or public social media. If you run a listed business and want your business page and its dresses taken down, email hello@bountynz.com and we will remove them.
Independent directory. Bounty is independent. We are not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any listed rental business, designer or brand, and listing a business or a dress does not suggest otherwise. Business, designer and brand names belong to their owners and are used only to identify the dresses listed. Photos, descriptions and other content that come from a business’s website or social media remain the property of that business or whoever else owns them; we show them only to help you find a dress and link you to the business, and we claim no rights in them. If you own something shown on Bounty — a photo, a description or a whole listing — and want it removed, use our business opt-out form or email hello@bountynz.com and we will take it down.
2. Your account
- You need an account to use Bounty. Give us accurate details and keep them up to date.
- You must be at least 18 to create an account.
- One account per person. Keep your password to yourself — you’re responsible for what happens on your account. If you think someone else has access to it, reset your password and tell us.
- A business account must be run by someone authorised to act for that business. To manage a business page you have to claim it, and we may ask you to verify that you represent the business before we approve the claim.
- Your username must not impersonate someone else or be offensive. We may change a username that is.
- You can delete your account at any time from your account settings, once any Pre-Loved order or dispute you’re part of is finished. See our Privacy Policy for what happens to your information.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts other users at risk, or is used for fraud. Where it’s reasonable to, we’ll tell you why and give you a chance to respond first.
3. Buying & selling Pre-Loved
3.1 The sale is between buyer and seller
A Pre-Loved sale is a contract between the buyer and the seller. Bounty provides the marketplace, takes the payment and holds it until delivery (see 4.1), but Bounty is not the seller and does not own, inspect or guarantee the items listed.
3.2 If you sell
- Only list designer pieces you own and have the right to sell. Counterfeits and replicas are not allowed.
- Describe the item honestly — brand, size, condition, any damage or alterations — and use your own photos of the actual item.
- Once an item sells, post it promptly with a tracked courier service and add the tracking number to the order. You won’t be paid until you do (see 4.1).
- Use the buyer’s delivery address only to send their order.
- Fees. Listing is free. Bounty does not currently charge sellers a commission. If that changes, we will tell you before it applies to your listings.
- Getting paid. Released sale proceeds go to your Bounty balance, and you can withdraw them to the New Zealand bank account you add in the app. You are responsible for any tax on your sales.
3.3 If you buy
- The price you pay is the item price, plus the shipping shown at checkout, plus a card processing fee of 2.65% of that total + NZ$0.30. The full amount is shown before you pay. All prices are in New Zealand dollars.
- Check the listing and ask the seller any questions before you buy. Refunds, cancellations and disputes are covered in section 4.
- Pay only through Bounty’s checkout. If you pay a seller any other way, you lose the protection of the held payment and we can’t help if something goes wrong.
4. Refunds & cancellations
This section explains when you can get your money back, how long it takes, and what to do when something goes wrong. It covers the two things you can pay Bounty for: Pre-Loved purchases and Bounty Premium.
4.1 How your money is held on a Pre-Loved purchase
When you buy a Pre-Loved item, your payment does not go straight to the seller. Bounty holds it and releases it to them only once the item has reached you:
- The seller has to add a courier and tracking number before anything is released. If they never post the item, the money stays held — it is never released to them by default.
- Once the parcel is marked delivered you have 24 hours to check the item and raise a problem. After that window the payment is released to the seller.
- If you confirm receipt yourself in the app, the payment is released to the seller straight away — so only confirm once you are happy with the item.
4.2 Cancelling before the item is posted
You can ask to cancel any order the seller has not yet posted. Message the seller through the order's chat thread; if they agree, or if they have not added tracking within a reasonable time, contact us at hello@bountynz.com and we will cancel the order and refund you in full. Once an item has been posted it can no longer be cancelled, and the sections below apply instead.
4.3 If your item never arrives
Getting the item to you is the seller’s responsibility, and once it has been posted it is in the courier’s hands. Bounty does not carry parcels and cannot trace, recover or replace them. If your item has not arrived:
- Check the tracking link on your order first.
- Message the seller in the order’s chat. The seller booked the delivery, so they are the one who can open a trace or a lost-parcel claim with the courier. You can also contact the courier directly using the tracking number.
- Your money is not at risk while you wait. Payment is only released to the seller once the parcel is marked delivered (see 4.1), so nothing is paid out while an item is missing.
- If the seller or the courier confirms the parcel is lost, or it has still not been delivered 10 working days after it was posted and the seller cannot resolve it, open a dispute from your order. The payment held for that order is then returned to you. Any compensation from the courier is a matter between the seller and the courier.
Bounty does not refund lost or undelivered parcels from its own funds.
4.4 If your item is not as described
A Pre-Loved sale is a contract between you and the seller. Bounty is not a party to it and does not guarantee the condition, quality or authenticity of items listed by other users. Sellers must describe condition, size and authenticity accurately, and they are responsible for the items they sell. An item is “not as described” if it is materially different from the listing — for example a different item, a different size, undisclosed damage or alteration, or a counterfeit.
If that happens:
- Contact the seller first. Within 24 hours of delivery, message the seller in the order’s chat with clear photos of the problem. Most issues are settled directly — a return, or a partial refund if you would rather keep the item.
- If you can’t agree, open a dispute. Use the dispute form on your order, within the same 24-hour window. Choose what is wrong, describe it and attach photos. Opening a dispute stops the payment being released to the seller while it is reviewed. Without clear photos we may not be able to take a dispute further.
- We review it. We look at the listing, the order chat and both sides’ evidence, and decide at our discretion whether the payment held for the order is returned to you in full or in part, or released to the seller. We may ask you to send the item back to the seller first. Return postage is yours to pay unless the seller agrees otherwise; use a tracked service, because we cannot help with a return that goes missing.
Disputes don’t cover change of mind or fit (see 4.5), normal wear that matches the listing, or problems raised after the 24-hour window. Bounty does not pay refunds from its own funds: any refund comes out of the payment held for that order, or from the seller.
4.5 Change of mind
Pre-Loved sales are between two individuals, not from a shop. Sellers are not obliged to accept a return because an item does not suit you or does not fit, and Bounty cannot force one. Some sellers will agree to a return if you ask — that is between you and them, and any return postage is yours to pay unless they agree otherwise.
4.6 What you get back
Where a refund is agreed by the seller or decided through a dispute under 4.2, 4.3 or 4.4, it comes out of the payment held for your order (or the seller’s Bounty balance). A full refund covers the item price and the shipping you were charged. The card processing fee you paid at checkout (see 3.3) is not refunded. Refunds are made to the card you paid with. We cannot refund to a different card or to a bank account.
We will start the refund within 5 working days of agreeing it. How quickly it appears on your statement is up to your bank, and is usually a further 3 to 10 working days.
4.7 If you are the seller
When a buyer is refunded under 4.2, 4.3 or 4.4, the corresponding amount is reversed out of your Bounty balance. If it had already been released to you, it is deducted from your available balance, and we may hold future sale proceeds to cover it.
4.8 Bounty Premium
Premium is billed in advance, monthly or annually. You can cancel at any time from Settings or the Demand dashboard. When you cancel:
- Your Premium features stay active until the end of the period you have already paid for.
- You are not billed again after that.
- We do not refund the unused part of the current month or year, and we do not give partial refunds on an annual plan cancelled part-way through.
- If you are cancelling during a free trial, it simply ends and you are never charged.
If you were billed after cancelling, or charged an amount you did not expect, contact us at hello@bountynz.com and we will put it right.
4.9 Your rights under New Zealand law
Nothing in this section limits rights you have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 that cannot legally be excluded. The Consumer Guarantees Act generally does not apply to a private sale between two individuals, so it will not usually cover a Pre-Loved purchase from another user — but it does apply to the services Bounty itself supplies to you, including Bounty Premium.
4.10 How to reach us
Email hello@bountynz.com with your order number and what went wrong. We aim to reply within 2 working days.
5. Bounty Premium
- Premium is a paid subscription for business accounts. It unlocks extra features such as the Demand dashboard, business analytics and renter flags. The features included can change over time; we won’t remove a core feature part-way through a period you’ve already paid for.
- The price and billing period (monthly or annual) are shown before you subscribe. Payment is taken by Stripe and your plan renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel.
- If we change the price, we’ll tell you at least 30 days before it applies to your next renewal, so you can cancel first if you want to.
- Cancellation and refunds are covered in 4.8.
6. Listings & conduct
6.1 Your content
You own what you post — photos, reviews, listings, messages. By posting it on Bounty you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, display and share it on Bounty (including in previews on social media and search engines) for as long as it’s on Bounty. Only post content you have the right to post.
6.2 What’s not allowed
- Counterfeit items, or items you don’t have the right to sell.
- False or misleading listings, reviews or flags — including reviewing your own business or a competitor’s.
- Harassment, hate, threats, or sexual or offensive content.
- Spam, scams, or asking people to pay or talk outside Bounty to avoid its fees or protections.
- Scraping, overloading or trying to break into Bounty or other people’s accounts.
We may remove content or restrict an account that breaks these rules.
6.3 Reviews
Reviews must be about a real experience with the business, honest, and your own.
6.4 Renter flags
Premium businesses can flag a renter who damaged a dress or behaved badly during a rental. A flag must be honest and made within 6 months of the incident, with photo evidence. Flags are visible to other Premium businesses. The renter is notified, can see the flag and respond to it, and can appeal to us at hello@bountynz.com. While a flag stands, the renter can’t review the business that made it. We may remove a flag we find is unfounded, and false or retaliatory flags can lead to the flagging business losing access to the feature or its account.
A flagged renter can also ask the business that raised the flag to correct or remove it. The business has 20 working days to accept, which deletes the flag, or to decline and say why. Until it answers, other businesses see the flag marked as disputed, along with what the renter says is wrong. Every flag is deleted automatically 24 months after the incident.
A business can also flag a renter who isn’t on Bounty, identified only by their Instagram handle and/or first name and last initial. The same rules apply. Because they have no account they aren’t notified, but they can contact us at the address above to see, respond to or appeal the flag. A business that withdraws a flag deletes it permanently.
7. Liability
- We work to keep Bounty running and accurate, but we provide it “as is” and can’t promise it will always be available or error-free, or that listings from businesses and users are accurate.
- Bounty is not responsible for rentals booked with a business, or for the items, descriptions or conduct of other users. Your remedies for those are against the business or user concerned (and the dispute process in 4.4 for Pre-Loved).
- To the extent the law allows, Bounty is not liable for indirect or consequential loss (such as lost profits or a missed event), and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the greater of NZ$100 and the fees you paid Bounty in the 12 months before the claim.
- If you use Bounty for the purposes of a business, you agree that the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and sections 9, 12A, 13 and 14(1) of the Fair Trading Act 1986 do not apply, to the extent permitted by those Acts.
- Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under New Zealand consumer law that can’t legally be excluded (see 4.9).
- These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction.
- We may update these terms. If a change is significant we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using Bounty after that, the new terms apply.
8. Privacy
How we collect, use and protect your personal information is explained in our Privacy Policy.
